Angelicus Maria Müller (1677-1734) and the Island of Cyprus

Andreas E. Müller - Professor, Institut für Byzantinistik und Νeogräzistik, Universität Wien

Abstract

Between 1729 and 1732 an impressive pilgrimage travel account was published in Prague in five volumes, entitled Peregrinus in Jerusalem. Its author was a monk named Angelicus Maria Müller, a friar of the Order of the Servants of Mary, who had travelled in the Eastern Mediterranean some years earlier (1725-1727), stopping several times at the island of Cyprus. This paper intends to shed some light on this quite unknown traveller and his remarks about Cyprus.
