The Sylvia Ioannou Foundation participated in the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation's Colloquium titled ‘One book, six centuries of history. Editions from the dawn of printing in the libraries of Athens’ by presenting one of the Collection’s incunabula.

Paper’s title: ‘Thoughts and observations on an incunable of 1481’
Leonora Navari, Historical Bibliographer
Maria Yiouroukou, Ph.D., Philologist-Palaeographer
The Sylvia Ioannou Foundation

The Sylvia Ioannou Foundation presented the incunable titled Abbreviatio Pii Pont.Max.Svpra Decades Blondi Ab Inclinatione Imperii Vsque Ad Tempora Iohannis Vicesimi Tercii. Pont. Max. [colophon: D.D.L.D.S.P.V. Anno .MCCCCLXXXI.], a compendium by Pope Pius II (Enea Silvio Piccolomini, 1405-1464), based on Flavio Biondo’s work on the history of Europe. This compendium was printed in Rome in 1481 by a printer/publisher whose career was short-lived. The paper explored the book’s technical characteristics (a distinctive feature that had intrigued certain of its previous owners), its journey from owner to owner, and information on the printer/publisher. The Foundation’s policy with regard to its collection of books was also discussed.
