Two unique items of the Collection enrich the history of 1821

The Sylvia Ioannou Foundation offered for research two unique items of its Collection, enlightening aspects of 1821, for the purpose of the new book by Petros Papapolyviou Πτυχές και διαθλάσεις του Κυπριακού 1821. Πρόσωπα, σχέδια και σκιές (Rizes Editions, Nicosia 2022). The materials are:

  • an eight page draft letter “to the rescued in Europe Cypriots” (Β. 2398) attributed to Nikolaos Theseus, and
  • a paper known as the "declaration" of rescued Cypriots of the 6th December 1821 (Β. 2595).


The publication was enriched with portraits of Cypriot men, from the album of Benjamin Mary (Β. 2380) which also belongs to the Collection of the Sylvia Ioannou Foundation.

The presentation of the book was held on Tuesday 29 November 2022, at the House of Cyprus in Athens. Paschalis M. Kitromilides, Academician, Artemis Scutari, Chairperson of the Sylvia loannou Foundation, Petros Papapolyviou Associate Professor of the University of Cyprus and the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus in Greece, Kyriakos Kenevezos spoke about the book.
